No fad that promises rapid short-term weight loss can work permanently. The only secret is lifestyle change, which is invariably slow and ponderous. My goal is to shed (note, not lose, because what you lose you subconsciously try to find again) 100 grammes a week. And if that seems trivial, I am currently 32Lbs lighter than I was a couple of years ago, and I have reversed forever the trend of putting on a little weight every year. I love the food I eat today, I eat plenty of it (sometimes still too much), and I love the regular exercise I get. In fact I feel bad when I miss a day. I drink wine and beer. I eat the occasional hamburger. And I love life. And every week, on average, I end up 100 grammes lighter than the week before. By the time I hit 60 years of age (I have just turned 57) I will be on my target weight. Then I will continue to shed a little weight every month into my 70s and beyond.
